Self-Care Activities to Unwind for the Weekend
The weekends can be a great time to unwind and relax. Unfortunately for so many years, I use to feel soooo drained from my hectic work week, that the only thing really wanted to do was to bury my head in my pillow and sleep when Saturday and Sunday rolled around.
Now don’t get me wrong, it’s totally ok if you simply want to get some good ol’ rest and sleep during the weekend because sometimes it’s just what you need, or it’s just something you just want to give yourself. So if rest and sleep is calling your name this weekend, then go for it.
And when I wasn’t super exhausted and yearning for rest and sleep, I was often booking my weekends with brunches and events, which often led to me feeling even more exhausted by the time the work week began again on Monday because I simply wasn’t giving myself an adequate amount of rest and recovery time that I needed for myself. Those experiences taught me that it’s important to have a healthy balance for myself, and that it’s ok to say No to event, brunch, or other social invitations on the weekends, and just spend time with myself.
But if you want to add some other self-care activities into your weekend, below are a few activities that can provide you with some relaxation and restoration.
· Go to a yoga class. Yoga is a great restorative practice for the mind and body. It helps you release any stale energy from your body, while helping you to connect with your breathe to send light and love throughout your mind, body, and spirit. Studios that offer Bikram yoga or hot yoga are my favorite types of yoga as the heat helps in warming up my muscles allowing for a deeper stretch, coupled with helping me to release toxins in my body as I sweat. Which then makes savasana feel soooo soothing at the end.
· Doing some crafting. The weekends are great time to schedule some time with yourself to do some creative activities that maybe you’ve been interested in exploring as a potential hobby, or just simply engaging in a creative outlet. You could do some simple water-coloring painting, make body scrub (I have a simple DIY recipe to try out), or do some bullet journaling using different scraps of paper.
· Do something kind and loving for yourself. Our weekdays are often filled with completing work demands or taking care of our families, so we often forget to take time to do loving and kind things for ourselves. So as you go into the weekend, stop by the store and buy yourself some flowers and arrange them in a vase when you get back home while playing soothing music or music that makes you feel happy.
